The powers to be have decided that the Carabao Cup, or League Cup, as we know it needed something of a shake-up.
The much-maligned competition which only seems to attract the attention of the punters in its latter stages, will undertake the following changes next season.
1 – There will be no extra-time in the competition next season, if the scores are level the ties will immediately go to penalties after 90 minutes. Apparently, this decision has been made to alleviate what is being described as ‘additional fatigue issues’.
2 – The only time extra-time will be played is if the final itself is level after 90 minutes.
3 – The seeding rule currently implemented for the first two rounds of the competition is to be scrapped, meaning that the big-guns of the Premier League can be drawn against each other in the early rounds.
4 – Returning to the penalty shoot-out situation, the ABBA system will be scrapped, and we’ll be returning to the ABABAB format previously employed.
Here at Vital Chelsea we’re in favour of all four changes, hopefully it’ll give the competition the shake-up it needs and reinvigorate public interest.
But what are your feelings on the rule change?
Are you in favour of all four, three of them, two of them, one of them or none of them?
