Chelsea’s 1st summer signing? World Cup goal-scorer wanted at Stamford Bridge
Despite news of Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea
haven’t been officially confirmed, reports have linked him with move for
new signings ahead of his appointment as the new Blues boss.
The Mirror are reporting Sarri is interested in making Belgium international Dries Mertens his first signing as Chelsea boss, according to the Mirror.
The former Napoli boss is tipped to replace Antonio Conte in coming days and he is already targeting a raid on his previous club in a bid to sign the 31-year-old.
Mertens’s has a £24.5 million release clause which has expired last week. But Sarri has told friends that he wants to take the forward with him to his next club after being replaced by Carlo Ancelotti at the Serie A club.
The Belgium international, who scored 22 goals for Napoli this season, scored a superb volley for his national side in their opening Group G victory over Panama.
Mertens has lucrative offers from China, while Atlético Madrid, Paris St-Germain and Schalke have also been linked with the player.
