Poland wants to block access to online porn and claims internet smut leads to "dramatic personality changes"

MPs for the country's Law and Justice party have put forward radical proposals to curtail access to porn websites

Poland’s right wing government wants to block access to online pornography - and claims that it is “destructive” to its citizens’ minds.

A proposal by the country’s ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) has suggested a registration system be introduced to severely curtail access to pornography websites.

Under this system, telecommunication companies would be forced to cut off access to x-rated sites unless customers choose to opt in.

Politicians say access to porn is too easy and claimed that uncontrolled consumption is akin to taking drugs.

Currently, over 50 percent of Polish internet users access free porn at home and while at work.

Piotr Uscinski, an MP for the country’s ruling party, said that pornography “works on the brains of its consumers" and leads to drastic “personality changes”.

He said: "Pornography is a threat to public health because it leads to a pandemic of porn addiction."
The government also argues that adult content is too easy for young people to watch.

Research from the Integrated Prevention Institute shows that in Poland, 60 percent of boys and 40 percent of girls are first exposed to porn at the age of 11.

PiS MP Arkadiusz Mularczyk said: "We should civilise and limit this sphere of life because we can not allow demoralisation. Today, the law is too liberal in this respect."
