Fekir’s future has been the subject of speculation throughout the summer and with the English transfer window closing on Thursday, it still remains far from clear.
The 25-year-old had appeared set to move to Liverpool earlier this summer, only for Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas to pull the plug on a deal.
It has since opened the door for other clubs to swoop in and Chelsea have been among the clubs mentioned.
Fekir was not involved as Chelsea beat Ligue 1 side Lyon 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in their final pre-season friendly at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, having returned to training this week following his role in France’s World Cup win.
Olivier Giroud wants Nabil Fekir to join Chelsea and has gone as far as to say this directly to the press.
“I spoke to him when we were with the France team and his transfer to Liverpool was aborted,” Giroud said.
“After that, it was a question about Chelsea. Even Eden had a couple of words with him.
“We’d welcome him, he’s a great player and of course we’d welcome him with pleasure. I don’t know if it’s news but the market finishes on Thursday.”
I seriously doubt if this deal will pull through especially in this late hour.
