Pundit: Jose Mourinho is trying to change at Man United

Jose Mourinho is feeling the pressure to change his managerial approach at Manchester United this season, according to Danny Murphy.

The Red Devils boss has found himself under pressure in recent days after Manchester United lost their second game of the Premier League season on Sunday following a 3-2 defeat by Brighton.

Mourinho has been tasked with steering Manchester United to a genuine Premier League title challenge this term, with the Red Devils having finished in second place in the table and without a trophy last season.

Manchester United have not won the Premier League since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2015.

And former Liverpool FC defender Murphy seems to think that Mourinho is being forced to change his philosophy to appease the fans at Old Trafford.

Speaking in an interview with bwin, Murphy said: “Mourinho has been successful everywhere with his trusted formula, but I think he is feeling an obligation to change that formula at Manchester United.

“I think he’s changing how he does things and making tweaks he wouldn’t usually make to try appease the history of the club and what fans expect.

“You can’t keep that many supporters happy by continuously playing such pragmatic football at Manchester United. This Mourinho team is set up defensively and they aren’t putting teams to bed.”

Manchester United will aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The Red Devils won both the League Cup and Europa League in Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford but ended up without a trophy last term.
