Troy Deeney ‘hates’ Virgil van Dijk because Liverpool star is ‘too big, too strong, too quick – and he’s got good hair’

Troy Deeney jokingly admitted he hates Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk because he is so hard to play against.
The Watford skipper claimed the world’s most expensive defender was ‘too big, too strong, too quick, too good on the ball’.

He did however admit that, despite getting the better of him on several occasions, the Netherlands captain smelt great and had great hair.

“I’ve said it many times, I hate him,” Deeney told BBC Radio 5. “I hate going up against him.
“He’s too big, too strong, too quick, too good on the ball, loves fighting, a good head of hair.”
Since arriving at Anfield in January, the 6ft 4ins colossus has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League – a brawler capable of playing out from the back with consummate ease.

Despite his brawn, Deeney admitted the 27-year-old even managed to smell great when bulldozing opposition strikers.

He added: “One of those guys that sprays on his top as well, so it smells lovely! When he runs past you, it’s like ‘I can’t catch you, but…”
With the former Southampton man alongside youngster Joe Gomez, Jurgen Klopp’s side look the most likely candidates to challenge Manchester City for the title.
The former Charlton Athletic man was compared to England legend Bobby Moore by Garth Crooks earlier this season, and Deeney can see what the fuss is about.

“I’ve said for a very long time that I’ve got a massive respect for Joe Gomez,” he continued.
“He could be England’s centre half for the next 15 years.

“He is a beast of a player. And going next to someone like Van Dijk, he is only going to get better.”
