The Blues were looking to record their sixth successive Premier League win after a brilliant start to the campaign under the new manager.
Sarri brought on Barkley in the 79th minute as Chelsea FC chased a winner despite having two-time Premier League winner Fabregas on the bench.
The January signing was unable to produce a moment of magic to secure three points for the visitors at the London Stadium.
Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin has examined the role that Fabregas could play in Sarri’s team if given a chance to contribute.
“The gaffer didn’t bring him on, preferring Ross Barkley when he made that late midfield change,” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.
“Another substitute had also been used up by the injury to Toni Rudiger. Ross played very well in Greece I thought; he was maybe even our man of the match so it’s hard to argue with the decision.
“He also put a few fine crosses in, had an angled shot well saved and was very energetic during his late cameo at the London Stadium.”
Nevin added: “Cesc has a world-class ability to ‘pick locks’ and crack the defences of deep-lying teams with his incredible vision and inch-perfect passing.
“I am sure quite a few Chelsea fans had those thoughts crossing their minds, but there is the knowledge that Cesc and his talents are ready, willing and able again now after his injury.
“I suspect he will be needed regularly in our side. With this style of play and the defensive styles that teams are now choosing against us, he will be vital.”
Fabregas moved to Chelsea FC in a £27m deal from La Liga side FC Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The Spain international has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup since his return to the English capital.
Fabregas has never won the Champions League nor the Europa League during his decorated career.
