Emile Heskey makes bold Chelsea and Man Utd title prediction

LIVERPOOL are not the only side capable of challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

That’s according to former Reds striker Emile Heskey. Pep Guardiola’s side lifted the trophy last term following a stunning campaign that saw them become the first English side to break the 100-point barrier.

Liverpool strengthened well during the summer, splashing out £175m on four new players, and they’re the hot favourites to challenge City for top spot.

There have been suggestions that this season’s title battle is a two-horse race.

However, early season form indicates there could be several teams involved.

Chelsea have impressed under new boss Maurizio Sarri and sit top after winning all five Premier League matches so far.

Meanwhile, after a slow start, Manchester United have won two games in a row and Jose Mourinho is determined to bring the trophy back to Old Trafford.
And Heskey is not convinced Liverpool and City are the only contenders.

“It’s difficult to say it’s definitely a two-horse race to be honest with you,” he exclusively told Starsport.

“There will be blips, there’ll be little patterns coming up, especially around Christmas time where there’s a lot of games.

“There will be times that you’ll pick up injuries, you won’t pick up the results that you feel you need.
“There will be times where Man United will come into their own.
“So I wouldn’t say it’s a two-horse race right now.

“I think Liverpool are up there, they’ve got a great chance, especially going off the start that they’ve made.

“But looking at the football being played and the squads that they’ve got, I would have to say Man City look a little bit ahead of everyone else.

“Even though they did drop points at Wolves, I do feel that they’ve got it.
“They’re doing it without Kevin De Bruyne as well so I still feel they’ve got the squad to really win the league again.”

The race for the top four could be the closest it’s been for years, with Arsenal improving under new boss Unai Emery, while Tottenham looked imperious as they won 3-0 at United last month.

But Heskey has backed the two north London rivals to fall short this season and miss out on Champions League football.

“Probably Arsenal and Spurs,” he said when asked which sides will miss out on the top four.

“I think Chelsea are very strong.
“I just think the others are squad-wise a bit stronger.
“And I think with the long season that Spurs and their international players had last season, with the World Cups and stuff, I just feel that I don’t know if they will be the same as last season.”
