Martin Keown sends warning to Chelsea FC about title challenge

Martin Keown has warned Chelsea FC that the Europa League could hamper their Premier League title challenge.

The Blues have been talked up as potential winners of the Premier League this season despite Maurizio Sarri’s appointment.
Chelsea FC have won five of their opening six games in the English top flight aside from a 0-0 draw with West Ham last weekend.

The west London outfit are two points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool FC ahead of their clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
The Blues manager fielded a strong team for their Europa League opener and Chelsea FC were rewarded with a 1-0 win over PAOK in Greece last week.

Former Arsenal star Keown believes Chelsea FC will need to use their squad wisely to compete on both domestic and European fronts.
“Eden Hazard did not travel to Greece for Chelsea’s Europa League clash with PAOK, then he came back and scored a super goal against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. Sarri rested his best player and got his reward,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“I’m sure in Jurgen Klopp’s first season in the Premier League, there were times when the manager himself felt fatigued, not just his players! His heavy-metal football took its toll. Now, Liverpool are using their squad more wisely, and Manchester City are too. That is key.
“It’s a long journey to win the Premier League. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Chelsea have to make sure they use their energy wisely as they juggle the Europa League.”

Chelsea FC finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League spot.

The Blues have won the Premier League and the FA Cup in three of the last four campaigns.

The west London outfit have beaten Huddersfield Town, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Cardiff City and Bournemouth this term.
