JOSE MOURINHO has confirmed Anthony Martial was hit with a Manchester United fine for going AWOL after the birth of his son.

As reported by SunSport, Martial faced a club fine of two weeks wages - amounting to around £180,000 - for failing to train for eight days.

Martial, 22, left the team's US tour last month to be in Paris for Swan's birth.

But Mourinho was expecting him to return to the States afterwards.

The United boss was today asked what he thought about Paul Pogba's comment that he would be fined if he said what was on his mind after United's 2-1 win over Leicester on Friday.

It has led to a furious bust-up between the duo - and Mourinho revealing that Martial was fined.
Asked about the episode with Pogba, Mourinho said: "I don't care. You have to ask Paul.
"I'm here for two years and a couple of months, and the only player that was fined was Anthony Martial.

"So it's not easy to be fined here."

Mourinho had previously insisted that Martial should have returned to LA, saying: "He has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God. He should be here and he is not here."
