Nemanja Matic responded to Chelsea fan after they mocked Man Utd on Instagram

Nemanja Matic made his Manchester United return on Monday night.

Having been sidelined with injuries since the World Cup, Jose Mourinho reintroduced him to the side against Tottenham and the midfielder notched up 61 minutes of football on the night.

However, it wasn't exactly a fairytale return for Matic who was involved in an embarrassing defeat with Spurs running away 3-0 victors thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Lucas Moura.

United have experienced a difficult start to the season with a scrappy victory over Leicester City and a 3-2 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Matic moved to United from Chelsea last summer in a move that raised a few eyebrows at the time.

Matic makes Man Utd return

Last season looked to vindicate his decision in some respects with the Red Devils finishing in second place, while Chelsea couldn't make the Premier League's top four.
Not only that but Matic earned plenty of praise for his own individual performances throughout 2017-18.
However, the campaign ended on a frustrating note for the player after United missed out on silverware by losing the FA Cup final to - of all teams - Chelsea.

All that makes for some interesting banter between United and Chelsea fans, no more so considering the start Matic's new team have made to the season.

In fact, it prompted a number of supporters to upload a photograph of Matic with the Premier League trophy after 2016/17 and suggest that'll be the last time he wins it.

That includes Chelsea Instagram account @Chelsearepublic_ who was caught completely off guard when his own Matic post received a comment from the man himself.

On the day of the Europa League draw, the Serbian simply reply: 'who you draw in CL?'

In another twist to the saga, the Chelsea fan in question has since re-started his Instagram account and claimed in his return post that Matic had reported him.

That being said, in reference to the comment, he then posted: "Not even gonna lie, matic is the goat for this comment 😂😂😂😂 ffs that’s gold 😂"

At least they know when they were beaten and it was certainly a scathing reply from Matic who clearly didn't take the criticism lightly.

Only time will tell whether these posts from Chelsea fans come true but United do face an uphill battle given the starts made by Liverpool and Manchester City.

From an individual standpoint, though, Matic has been a success at United so far and could bring about great improvements for the team if he's on top form.


The Tottenham defeat can serve as an indication of just how much work needs to be done.
