New Chelsea player reveals why he snubbed Real Madrid and Juventus to seal move

Record signing goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has revealed why he snubbed the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid to join Chelsea from Atletic Bilbao, according to report.

When Liverpool agreed to sign Alisson Becker from Roma in a  €72.5million deal, eye brows were raised and Jurgen Klopp was accused of being extravagant in the transfer window. Within the same period, Chelsea shattered the same record to sign young Spanish shot-stopper Arrizabalaga after triggering his €80 million release clause.

Thihaut Courtois had resumed training with Chelsea in the summer and decided to call time on his spell with them. A situation that left the Blues scampering around Europe for his replacement. They eventually settled for Arrizabalaga.

The star has had a barnstorming life to start in the Premier league with Chelsea and he has been included in the Spanish national team in their fixtures against the Three Lions of England and World Cup runner up Croatia.
Speaking ahead of the international friendly games, he goalkeeper told Spanish publication AS  why he opted to join Chelsea.

“It is a great club, which in recent years has won the Champions League, Europa League and the Premier League… It’s a team with great players. It was an important bet and I am happy to take this step, I want to enjoy it,” Kepa said.

“I started the pre-season with Bilbao and it was several weeks, Chelsea showed their interest. There were talks and everything was carried out. I’m happy for all the effort that Chelsea has made because it’s not easy to pay those amounts and I’m looking forward to returning it on the field.”
