Arsenal lose from Mesut Ozil new contract, says Ray Parlour

Arsenal will be regretting their decision to sign Mesut Ozil on a bumper new contract amid their contract impasse with Aaron Ramsey.

Ozil held out on signing a new deal until Arsenal felt no choice but to give into his hefty wage demands.

The German, who signed a four-year extension in January reportedly earns £300,000-a-week on his current deal.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey and his representatives are trying to negotiate a new contract with his current one expiring at the end of the season. The Gunners recently withdrew from the table after initially agreeing a deal worth around £250,000-a-week.

And former Gunners midfielder Parlour believes the club has put themselves in a treacherous position by rewarding Ozil such a generous deal.
“It’s down to money isn’t it,” Parlour told talkSPORT while speaking about Ramsey’s contract stand-off.

“Arsenal gave that big contract to Ozil and Aaron’s representatives are saying they want the same.

“[They’re saying] that Aaron influences games as much as Ozil does, he’s in the same situation with one year left on his contract and they want to be paid the same.

“Arsenal might have made a mistake by giving Ozil that much money and they might regret it, but it’s happened now, they’ve got to get on with it. But they don’t want to do the same again.”
