Arsenal not given up hope of signing 22-year-old Germany international

Arsenal are still considering a potential free transfer move for one-time Schalke central midfielder Max Meyer, with two other teams interested, according to reports in Italy.
The Italian website Tuttomercatoweb state AC Milan and Liverpool join Arsenal in the chase for the 22-year-old midfielder.

Meyer’s contract with one-time club Schalke came to an end on 30 of June, so he’s free to negotiate a transfer with whichever team he wants at this point.
As a result of the lack of transfer sum, however, he’s reportedly requesting higher wages.
The Italian report states he wants over €5m-per-year (£4.4m), or £85,000-per-week. Those are after-tax figures as well, so realistically Max wants his new club to pay well over £100,000-per-week.

The problem is that Max had a mixed season. He was superb at winning the ball back, and his passing was up to its usual high standards, but German star struggled in many other areas like crossing, aerial duels and finishing.

Part of that probably goes down to the lack of certainty around his future. Schalke fans and players have expected him to leave for some time now, so they might not have given German quite as much support on and off the pitch.
