The Brazilian international has joined the Red Devils as the man who could fill in for the now-retired Michael Carrick.
And as far his squad number is concerned, United have handed Fred the no. 17 shirt for the new season.
That squad number was worn of course by Daley Blind, who has completed a move to his former club Ajax this summer.
Most fans were rather expecting Fred to wear the shirt number vacated by the man whom he is potentially replacing, Michael Carrick.
The 25-year-old will be eager to make an impact on the pitch for the Red Devils in his debut season as Jose Mourinho looks to challenge Premier League champions Manchester City for the title.
United are still being linked with several players who could join Fred on the list of new signings this summer.
