Confirmed: World class winger snubbed Man United to sign for Chelsea, reveals reason

The Bundesliga player became a money magnet after his dazzling displays for then club PSV in the Eredevisie.

It is understood that PSV received a plenty of offers for the winger at that time, and Manchester United were in that lot too.

United’s bid however, was perceived as a mocking statement for a player of his calibre.
And PSV chairman at the time, Harry van Raaij strongly objected to the bid and made sure it was quickly put down.

He said: “For that money they can get a shirt from Robben with his signature on it, nothing more.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea had stepped up to better United’s deal, one that would later be agreed by PSV and see the star join the Premier League giants.

However, Robben says he has “no regrets” joining the Blues.

It is understood Robben had a dinner session with former Reds Devils boss Alex Ferguson, hinting the club could finally seal his transfer.

But according to Robben, “I went back to PSV nothing happened. There was no real contact and the deal didn’t happen.”

He further added: “I spoke to Chelsea and I liked their plans. We had one meeting and everything was done pretty quickly.”
