Official talks currently ongoing as Chelsea close in on completing yet another signing

The London Evening Standard reports that Chelsea have opened official talks in signing Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino over the weekend.

Maurizio Sarri, who replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge this month, is keen to sign a centre-back, another midfielder and a striker before the August 9 deadline.

The midfielder made 29 appearances for Inter Milan this season on the way to booking his place in Uruguay’s World Cup squad.

Chelsea will have been interested onlookers as Vecino featured in all three of his country’s group games in Russia.

Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta has been linked with a return to his native Italy as part of a deal for Vecino.

It is claimed Sarri has asked Chelsea’s board to secure a deal for Vecino, who is valued at £31million, as he believes he can adopt to his style of play.

He is a player that Maurizio Sarri knows very well having worked together at Empoli.

The report claims that Sarri wants to bring in the Inter star to help influence his style of play on the rest of the first-team squad at a faster rate.

Sarri views Vecino as an upgrade on current midfield options Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater who have been tipped to leave the club this summer.
