Chelsea closing in on free transfer for Brazilian star Bernard after Shakhtar Donetsk deal runs out

Feel the bern Chelsea closing in on free transfer for Brazilian star Bernard after Shakhtar Donetsk deal runs out

Blues have turned their attention to the out of contract attacker after losing out to Monaco for Russian World Cup star Aleksandr Golovin

Brazilian outlet GloboEsporte claim new boss Maurizio Sarri now wants to bag Bernard on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old moved to Ukraine from Atletico Mineiro in 2013 for £22m but has rejected the chance to extend his stay at the club.

Despite offers from West Ham, Leicester City, Wolfsburg and Palmeiras, Bernard has opted to move to West London.

The schemer will join fellow countrymen Willian and David Luiz at Stamford Bridge, providing cover to Sarri’s existing attacking options.

The attacker has 14 caps for Brazil but failed to make the 2018 World Cup squad and has been frozen out since their shocking campaign on home soil four years ago.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have told AC Milan they will have to cough up £62m if they want Alvaro Morata.

The 25-year-old joined the Blues from Real Madrid last year for £57m.

After a good start to last season, the Spanish striker flopped, managing just 11 league goals in 31 games and eventually losing his place to Olivier Giroud.
