Chelsea interested in signing World Cup finalist, would fill gaping void in squad

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Atletico Madrid right-back Šime Vrsaljko this summer.
Davide Zappacosta was drafted in from Torino last summer, but failed to prove that he is Chelsea quality during his debut season at Stamford Bridge.

Victor Moses has been first-choice on the right-channel with Antonio Conte at the helm, but it is unclear whether he’d be able to operate as a traditional right-back.

Chelsea may well look to recruit a new right-back this summer. Napoli’s Elseid Hysaj was a name mentioned, but that deal might be financially implausible.

According to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, incoming manager Maurizio Sarri may look to recruit Vrsaljko.

Vrsaljko was excellent for Croatia against England in the World Cup semi-final. He forced Gareth Southgate to bring on Danny Rose in order to nullify the threat down the right.

It’s unclear how much Atletico would demand in exchange for the 26-year-old. Let’s wait and see if this one develops.
