The report is according to The Sun,
that also claims Premier League Newcastle United are also eyeing move
for the player, whilst adding Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers have sent
scouts to watch the midfielder in Copa Libertadores action earlier this
year.
However, it’s claimed the attacking
midfielder is currently valued at £18m by his Brazilian club Cruzeiro
after three years service.
The South American played twice for
Uruguay at the World Cup in Russia but has since returned back to league
action in Brazil, scoring in his most recent match against Atletico
Paranaense.
Giorgian de Arrascaeta is an impressive
talent. In his overall 90 appearances for the Brazilian side, he has
scored 20 goals and created 13 assists and he should be able to produce
more than plying his trade in Scotland. But chances of Celtic
sanctioning £18m looks bleak, even if they are to sell some of their
fringe players this summer.
The club’s recent investment on former
Paris Saint-Germain striker Odsonne Edouard broke their club-record and
deals like that represent the next level for Celtic in their transfer
cycle. How serious they are in strengthening the team for further
participation at European competitions remains to be seen this summer.
