Pogba was linked with a shock summer transfer to Barcelona, and is reportedly keen to move onto a new challenge after two seasons at United. The Frenchman joined United from Juventus, four years after the Red Devils had sold him to the Serie A side as a youngster.
Pirlo and Pogba played alongside each other at Juventus and the Italian legend can envision his old team-mate returning to Italy.
‘Would I be surprised?’ he said to Tuttosport. ‘No, otherwise, I would not be surprised to see Paul at Juventus.’
It is believed the working relationship between Pogba and Jose Mourinho has been strained for some time after a continuous stream of criticism directed at the playmaker from his coach.
While Pogba led France to World Cup triumph in the summer, Mourinho opted to fire shots at United’s record transfer signing rather than lavish praise on the 25-year-old.
United have since endured a difficult start to the season with two wins and two defeats in their first four Premier League games.
The midfielder’s standing at the club has not been helped by several recent interviews that seem to suggest he was open to an exit from Manchester.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola reportedly promised his player he would only spend three campaigns at United before a switch to Spain. Despite the speculation, Pogba is under contract at United until 2021 and remains one of the side’s most influential players.
