Ian Wright makes Man City, Man United title prediction

Ian Wright believes Manchester United can still challenge Manchester City for the title this season.

The Red Devils endured what was ultimately a disappointing summer transfer window following just three new signings.

Manchester United signed Brazil international Fred in a £52m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk to improve their midfield.

Diogo Dalot arrived in a £17m deal from FC Porto to improve their defence despite the 19-year-old’s lack of experience.

Manchester United brought in veteran England goalkeeper Lee Grant in a £1.5m deal from Stoke City.

However, the Red Devils failed to strengthen at centre-half and on the right wing despite being linked with a host of players.

Manchester United were 2-1 winners against Leicester City at Old Trafford in their Premier League opener on Friday night.

Former Arsenal striker Wright is backing Manchester United to challenge Manchester City for the title.

“They finished second last season,” Wright told BBC Sport. “They have goal-scorers.
“They have world class midfielders. They have capable defenders.

“They have the best goalkeeper in the world. I still think Man United can get close to Man City.”

Manchester United re-signed Pogba in a £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant.
