Liverpool's Roberto Firmino says Premier League will be different this season

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino believes his side have improved on last season, and predicts the title race will go down to the final day of the season as he issues a warning to their rivals, the Mirror reports.

The Reds finished in fourth spot last season, some 25 points behind champions Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s men romped to the title with a record 100 points.

But Firmino believes the Citizens aren’t invincible and predicts Liverpool will be much closer to their rivals this time around, citing the improvement in personnel made over the summer at Anfield.

“I am optimistic and I believe Liverpool are capable of fighting for the greatest success this season. I also think we have a better team than last season and that the new players will improve the performance of the team,” the Brazilian said.

“City are not invincible, they have lost games too. I think the battle for the title is going to be very tough and will go until the very last day. That’s why we’re determined to start at the top.”

Liverpool certainly have a shot at winning the Premier League title this season, but to do so they will need to post their best ever Premier League points tally with City already looking in imperious form.

Guardiola’s men dominated in such a fashion last season, and they’ve begun their title defence with an opening day 2-0 victory over fellow challengers Arsenal, before beating Huddersfield Town 6-1 on Sunday.

The Reds have improved their squad with the addition of goalkeeper Alisson and midfielders Fabinho and Naby Keita, making the Liverpool squad stronger than last term.
