CRISTIAN PAVON remains a target for Arsenal and transfer talks have been held with Boca Juniors.
The Argentina international is highly rated in South America, having featured at the World Cup in Russia.
But he ultimately penned a new contract with Boca, increasing his buyout clause to £37.5m in the process.
Unai Emery has a wealth of talent in attack at the Emirates, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
And their restructuring behind the scenes this week could go a long way to making that deal a reality.
Ivan Gazidis has stepped down as Arsenal’s chief executive to join AC Milan.
That departure has subsequently seen Raul Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham appointed head of football and managing director respectively.
Sanllehi, who only took up his role as head of football relations in February after joining from Barcelona, is now the most powerful UK-based figure at the club.
And it is he who is said to be the driving force behind Arsenal’s desire to land Pavon.
From his time at the Nou Camp, Sanllehi has strong contacts in South America.
And Football London say Arsenal’s new head of football has already been in talks with Boca about Pavon.
The strong interest is led by Sanllehi as opposed to head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.
Sanllehi is regarded as a man who gets things done, having worked effectively at Barcelona for 14 years before joining Arsenal.
While sealing a new contract for Aaron Ramsey will be an important first job for the Arsenal chief, Pavon is a focus too.
The January transfer window could yet see the Gunners make an approach for the Boca star.
