The France international was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool a deal so close that Fekir already had pictures in Liverpool colours.
The deal broke down in the eleventh due to medicals reasons but it seems Chelsea are leading the race in signing the World Cup winner.
It is understood the Blues held talks with Lyon over a deal for the 24-year-old after their pre-season friendly clash with Lyon, according to Bleacher Report.
The report further claims Liverpool are still in contact with Lyon management of a deal for Fekir and they supposedly feel that, despite Jean-Michel Aulas being a tricky negotiator, they could land their man before the transfer window shuts down.
Fekir still has his heart set on a move to Liverpool and would jump at the chance to join Klopp’s entertaining outfit.
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Robert Pires last week urged the Reds to stump up the cash and secure Fekir’s signature.
“Fekir would be a good fit for the Premier League and a great signing for Liverpool,” he said.
“I don’t know why the deal broke down at the medical earlier this summer.
“But Fekir is a great player and would be a good signing for Liverpool.”
Fekir found the back of the net 23 time in 39 appearances as Lyon finished third in Ligue 1, behind just Monaco and Paris Sain-Germain
