Man Utd transfer news: Pogba to Barcelona explained, late Maguire hope, double deal plea

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has offered his client to Barcelona and a number of top clubs this summer.

And transfer expert Duncan Castles reckons it could be to get another big commission or earn the Frenchman a new and improved deal at Old Trafford.

Speaking on The Transfer Window podcast he said: “Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has been offering his star client around the top European clubs to see whether he could get a bite.

“Partly, he feels he can’t lose from that situation. He either gets another transfer and we’re talking €100m transfer with commissions going to the agent.

“Or he uses it to increase the player’s salary at Manchester United.

“But it doesn’t do him any harm to have Paul Pogba advertised as being wanted by a club like Barcelona at this time in the window.

“And to remind people of the player and the agent’s discontent about the situation at Manchester United.”

United may have been given late hope in their pursuit of Leicester centre-half Harry Maguire.
According to The Times, the Foxes are preparing for life without their star defender by lining up deals for two centre-backs.
Maguire emerged as Jose Mourinho’s top target this summer after his impressive performances for England at the World Cup.

Leicester have so far stood firm and resisted any approached from United, claiming the 25-year-old is not for sale at any price.

However, The Times claim deals for Freiburg’s Caglar Soyuncu and Dynamo Zagreb’s Filip Benkovic have both been agreed for a total fee of £33.5m which could see Maguire head to Old Trafford.
United need two more players to mount a serious title challenge this season, says Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney.
The Red Devils have so far spent around £74m this summer, with midfielder Fred, back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant and full-back Diogo Dalot arriving at Old Trafford.

But Rooney believes they need at least two new faces to have any chance of dethroning champions Manchester City.

"I hope someone can catch [Manchester City] - it would be nice, so hopefully Manchester United can,” said Rooney. “I think maybe another signing or two.”
