The 26-year old Englishman become an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s squad towards the back end of last season and forged quite a partnership with Chris Smalling as the Red Devils finished in the top four and made it to the FA Cup final.
And that would mean the likes of Jones, Smalling and Victor Lindelof would have to settle for time on the bench, awaiting their chance to prove that they are capable of being the clubs number one centre-halve.
But he is ready to battle Maguire, Alderweireld, or whomever else might arrive for a place in Jose Mourinho’s team next season.
“There’s been that talk for the last seven years,” said Jones on the ESPN website.
“I’ve got no given right to be in the team. You know that every season you have to perform well and when you’re not performing well you’re not in the team.”
If Alderweireld or Maguire do arrive at the club in the next few days then it will be very difficult for Jones to find space in the side as Bailly’s pace would go well with the leadership and power of one of the transfer targets.
But who would United fans prefer to see arrive, Maguire or the experienced Alderweireld?
