The 20-year-old was forced off after just 35 minutes during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat following a clash with Kyle Walker.
And following the fixture it was revealed the youngster had sustained a nasty fracture to his left leg, which will keep him sidelined for up to two months.
A statement on the club’s official website from the medical staff states: “Ainsley has sustained a small fracture to his left fibula and will be out for six to eight weeks.”
Maitland-Niles made his professional debut for Arsenal at just the age of 17 back in 2014, and has since featured 39 times in all competitions for the Gunners, including 28 times last term in what was a terrific breakthrough season for the youngster.
The versatile defender started at left-back for Arsenal’s Premier League opener at the weekend, however will now be replaced by either Stephan Lichtsteiner or Nacho Monreal against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Gutted for Maitland-Niles, injured right after he gets a new contract and a Premier League start against City.
He’ll be back though, I’m still hopeful he can make this another breakthrough season. pic.twitter.com/HSrsHFrDTy

I’m devastated for Maitland-Niles. With a new contract sealed and the chance to prove himself under a new manager, everyone was looking forward to seeing how he would develop this season. 2 months is a long time out, but hopefully he’ll come back stronger. Get well soon, Ainsley.— Patrick Timmons (@PatrickTimmons1) August 16, 2018
