The Emirates outfit had a tough start to the season, losing 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s dominant Manchester City. The Premier League title will be a long way from the minds of most fans of the Emirates outfit. However, a Europa League win is a very realistic option for silverware.
Unai Emery has made strides to dawning a new era at the North London club. A new lease of life at the Emirates was badly needed, as things had grown stale under the tenure of Frenchman Arsene Wenger.
To lift the trophy, Emery will need his players to step up and really perform. Particularly in the latter stages of the competition, fitness and desire will count for a lot.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
So far, Arsenal look like they might have got the better deal out of the swap deal, with Alexis Sanchez going the other way to Old Trafford.
Mkhitaryan’s style of play, relying more on technical ability and close-control than pace, is suited to the European game.
If the Armenian 29-year-old can consistently perform for Arsenal in the Europa League, it would be a huge positive for Arsenal.
Mesut Ozil
The German international is one of Arsenal’s most technically gifted players. However, his work rate and lack of tracking back can be a negative for the Gunners.
If he can put in consistent performances of a high quality, it would be a major benefit for Emery. He has the ability to lead by example in the middle of the park.
