After months of speculation that he could leave the club with Unai Emery eyeing up a number of potential summer deals, the Gunners shocked fans and handed Chambers a four-year deal, despite being a bit-part player with the club.
But Emery has seen something in Chambers that Wenger hasn’t and admitted he was delighted to see the Englishman sign up.
“I’m delighted Calum has extended his stay with us. He played an important role last season and will be part of my plans this season,” Emery said on the Arsenal website.
It will come as a massive surprise to many fans to see Chambers on his way on-loan once again, as a new deal should have meant a fresh start at the Emirates.
