Man United moving closer to securing signature of International No.2 star

Manchester United have reportedly edged closer to a £60m move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgium international has just one year remaining on his current Spurs contract, although the club do have the option to trigger a 12-month extension next summer.
However, Alderweireld spent much of the second half of the last campaign on the bench amid a purported contract standoff, with boss Mauricio Pochettino preferring to use Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen.

According to The Mirror, United had previously been unwilling to meet Tottenham’s £75m valuation of the 29-year-old, but a breakthrough now appears to have been reached between the two clubs.

The report also states that the Red Devils are confident of securing Alderweireld’s services within the next 48 hours, while Spurs are happy to sell this summer due to a clause in the player’s contract which would have allowed him to leave for £25m in 12 months’ time.
Alderweireld went to the 2018 World Cup with Belgium and started all but one game as the Red Devils finished third in Russia.
