Picture: Key Manchester United man arrives back at Carrington for first-team training

Manchester United Football Club will be putting in the final preparations for their Premier League opener against Leicester City this Friday night.

I think it’s fair to say that pre-season hasn’t been the best, results wise, but Jose Mourinho will point to the fact that his players are gaining the all-important match fitness.

Before The Foxes visit Old Trafford, the Red Devils have been handed a timely boost by Romelu Lukaku. Images of the Belgium international arriving back at Carrington have emerged online, with the 25-year-old finally back after guiding his country to a third-placed World Cup finish. There was also a picture of Nemanja Matic, who has recently been injured. Perhaps the man from Serbia is due to return earlier than expected?
Lukaku had an excellent debut season and a fantastic World Cup. He’ll be heading back to Manchester brimming with confidence. He’s now settled into life in Manchester, and the second season should be even better than the first from a personal point of view.

Now it’s down to the manager and the fitness staff to not rush him back too quickly. Don’t forget that he’s had no pre-season whatsoever. Perhaps it’ll be a boost to see him on the bench on Friday night, but I’d be extremely surprised if he started that fixture.
