Manchester United have been linked with a swoop to sign Maguire from Leicester City over the past couple of weeks.
Maguire was something of a revelation at the World Cup following his impressive performances for Gareth Southgate’s team.
Indeed, the Leicester defender scored in England’s 2-0 win over Sweden in the World Cup quarter-final before a 2-1 loss to Croatia in the last four.
The Foxes are thought to be asking for a transfer fee in excess of £65m for the 25-year-old former Hull defender.
Bundesliga expert Honigstein questioned whether Maguire has the quality to shine at Manchester United.
“It is a lot of money for someone who doesn’t look that comfortable on the ball.” Honigstein told the Transfer Window podcast.
“It reflects a little bit of panic.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season.
