Man United in pole position to sign £80m-rated World Cup star wanted by City

Manchester United are now in pole position to sign Craotian and Real Madrid midfielder Matteo Kovacic after Manchester City withdrew interest, according to reports.

Kovacic has been part of Les Merengues squad that won the record three Champions league but he is said to be unhappy with the bit-part role. He featured in 21 league games for Madrid last season and most of his cameos came from the bench.

The midfielder has decided to call time on his career with Madrid and he’s heavily attracted to the Premier league clubs, with Manchester City and Manchester United reportedly slugging it out for his signature.

Manchester City have missed out on the signing of Jorginho, who joined Chelsea over the last weekend. The Citizens wants to fill in the void left by the departure of Yaya Toure and Kovavic has been identified as a perfect fit.

However, Real Madrid will only allow the star leave for nothing less than his £80m valuation – and Pep Guardiola’s led side are unwilling to meet his price tag.

According to the Metro, City’s decision to baulk at the idea of signing the player now means Man United are in pole position for his signature.

United have already added Fred to the plethora of their otherwise strong midfield squad but there is the general belief that the club could as well sell off Paul Pogba who has only flattered to deceive.

Man United have already traveled to the USA for their pre-season tour but they are without some of their key players who shone at the World Cup.
