Manchester United Cleared To Sign £80m Star, Player Keen On Move

Manchester United have moved a step closer to signing Croatian ace Matteo Kovacic after City rivals Manchester City pulled out from a transfer.

Madrid have reportedly slapped a fee on Kovacic who has failed to cement a spot in the Madrid squad since his move from Inter Milan in 2015.

Kovacic recently spoke out and expressed his desire to leave Real Madrid this summer in search of first team opportunities. He also lashed out on the club for not giving him chances to showcase his talents and strongly admitted that he would leave this summer.

“I want to play more and the best thing is to leave Madrid. I love football and being on the pitch, I want the opportunity to be a starter for another team.
“I’ve been in Madrid for three years and I have not played too much and that’s something that has affected my status in the national team. It’s something that does not make me happy, that’s why it’s best to change teams.”

This announcement has alerted several clubs, with United and Man City reported to be frontrunners in trying to secure the unhappy player from Madrid.

According to sports outlet Sky Sports, Madrid price tag of £80 million has discouraged Manchester City leaving United as clear favourites to sign the Croatian Midfielder.

Mourinho would love to have a player of Kovacic style as he would bring dynamism with his cultured style of play to the United’s midfield. However, it remains to be seen if Ed Woodward will be willing to sanction a huge amount of money for a player that was on the fringes of the European Champions.

Kovacic was part of the Croatian squad that finished runners-up in the World Cup and he made five appearances albeit from the bench.
