According to renowned Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, AC Milan chiefs are set to fly to London to discuss the future of misfiring Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata. The Spanish forward has been slated because of his below average season and the Blues faithful have lost faith in the striker and might not want to see him lead the line in the upcoming campaign.
The Italian giants themselves are in need of a striker after their big money signing Andre Silva managed just 2 goals in the Serie A. Milan have missed out on Champions League qualification and so have Chelsea, so one can say both are in the same boat right now.
Morata started off his season well for the Blues as he hit the ground running. He managed a tally of 15 goals in all competitions but that wasn’t deemed to be good enough for a club of Chelsea’s calibre. It didn’t help the fact that there was no one else apart from him who could have shared the goalscoring burden.
Michy Batshuayi was sent on loan in the second half of the season
after he failed to impress Antonio Conte. The goal scoring onus solely
fell on Morata who was playing just his first season in the Premier League. Though Olivier Giroud was brought in from Arsenal, his presence was also not much of a relief for the Pensioners as well.
However, it seems unlikely that he will continue his stint in England after failing to cut the mustard with the Blues. A move to Serie A will probably benefit the striker as he has good experience in Italian football with Juventus and managed a haul of 27 goals and 19 assists in 93 appearances for them earlier during his loan stint.
The Blues are linked with Gonzalo Higuain as he is expected to follow in the footsteps of his former gaffer Maurizio Sarri who was confirmed as the new boss at Stamford Bridge recently. Sarri’s major goal will be to get back the team into the Champions League. Antonio Conte managed to win the FA Cup in his last season, but it wasn’t enough to save his job.
Morata
has certain facets to his game to be successful in the Premier League
and maybe after an experience of one season, he can come in firing on
all cylinders for his team. Selling him after just one mediocre term can
turn out to be a huge mistake for the West London outfit.
