Arsenal Set Their Sights On 22 Y/O German Midfield Maestro: Where Can He Fit Into Emery’s Plans?

Arsenal Set Their Sights On 22 Y/O German Midfield Maestro: Where Can He Fit Into Emery’s Plans?

Germany has a knack for contributing household names to the world of football and have produced some of the finest players currently plying their trades all over Europe. Max Meyer is one such product who has taken the Bundesliga by storm.

The German international is currently a free agent after his contract with Schalke 04 ran out and the midfielder now looks for a new club to continue his career with. Mirror reports that Arsenal and Liverpool are keen to have the 22-year-old on board but are reluctant to hand him a jersey with his name printed at the back due to the high wage demands Meyer is angling for. Gunners boss Unai Emery is looking to add more signings to his Arsenal squad and is interested in having the midfielder on board as long as he settles for less than the £4m-per-year which he demands.

Meyer clearly has the potential and the means to go very far in the modern game. He is quick to think on the pitch which gives him the ability to make a pass before the opposition can put a stop to it. He has immense speed with and without the ball at his feet and is highly technical. His passing range is exquisite and he has an admirable work rate.

Arsenal have plenty of reliable resources in midfield at their disposal and the addition of Meyer would give Emery something to ponder about. Emery prefers deploying his team with a 4-3-3 approach and we can expect him to do the same at the Emirates as well. Meyer would fit perfectly into his system sitting at the centre of the midfield three, playing the ideal box to box role. This would suggest the Spanish gaffer will look to place new signing Lucas Torreira as the deepest lying midfielder and Aaron Ramsey will carry the duty of being the creative force in midfield.
Money is doing its rounds and making itself a very important factor these days for players to decide on which club to sign for. It’s almost like they are starting to forget that football has to be the centre of their universe. If they prioritize football ahead of everything else, then monetary gains will automatically come chasing behind it.

Arsenal are set to make a strong impact on the Premier League and the Gunners would do well to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool to the ultimate prize in English football. Only time will tell if they can have Max Meyer in their ranks as they look to go onto the podium to lift some silverware next term.
