2nd summer signing: Chelsea sanction £53m deal for 36-goal forward

Chelsea have sanctioned a  £53million bid for Argentina international and Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, this is according to reports.

The Blues were inactive in the transfer window following the managerial impasse before the sack of Antonio Conte and appointment of Maurizio Sarri.

Chelsea have already confirmed the signing of Jorginho from Napoli and they are expected to be one of the most active top clubs in the market as the window draws to close.

Sarri has been reportedly handed a £140 million transfer war-chest and he is expected to add at least a striker and a centre-back. Gonzalo Higuain has been top of the transfer radar of Chelsea, with Alvaro Morata linked with a return to the opposite direction.

The lure of working with familiar players appeals greatly to Sarri. Higuain led the front-line for Napoli while Sarri was the boss, and the Argentina striker shattered the records of goals scored in the Seria A after ending the 2015-16 season with 36 goals in 35 league games.

A link-up appears to be in the offing as Football Italia via the Daily Star, reports that the Blues have offered Higuain a €6.6m per year contract over a three-year deal.

The report further claims the agent of the player  Fali Ramadani is currently locked in talks brokering the deal and Higuain to due to hold talks with Chelsea over the move today.

Juventus signed him for £80m from Napoli and they will have to settle for a tad less.
