Mbappe now at Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar level says Balague

Kylian Mbappe put in one of the stand out individual performances of the 2018 World Cup yesterday, as France defeated Argentina 4-3 to progress to the quarter final stage of football’s most prestigious tournament.

The 19-year-old PSG forward scored a brace of expertly taken finishes, with his pace and trickery causing the Argentina defence all sorts of problems – right from the very first whistle.

Mbappe burst onto the scene during the 2016/2017 season as part of the superb young Monaco side that won the French League and reached the semi-final of the Champions League. Last summer saw a transfer scramble with Europes elite clubs all trying to sign a player, who is widely regarded to be the most talented for his age in World Football, before he eventually decided to stay in his homeland and sign for PSG in a deal worth £166 million.

Highly respected Sky Sports journalist Guillem Balague has now suggested that Mbappe, along with his club team-mate Neymar are on their way to taking over from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the two best players in the World.

“It was the goals, the individual performance of the tournament so far,” Balague told the BBC.
“We saw Mbappe who is on the way to become, along with Neymar, ahead of Messi and Ronaldo.

“His performance was extraordinary but on the other hand it is the sadness of seeing Messi go home, perhaps the greatest player ever. He knew he couldn’t do much with this side.

“He knew he couldn’t do it all on his own. Argentina have been all about heart and complete disorganisation. France put a gear up and the best team one.”
