Real Madrid star puts Premier League teams on alert after insisting he wants to leave

Liverpool and Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their quest to land Real Madrid midfielder, Matteo Kovacic this summer.

The Croatian is on the radar of several Premier League teams after starring as a squad player for Real Madrid for the past three seasons. He also impressed as Croatia went all the way to the final of the World Cup in Russia.

He took out a full page of a popular Spanish newspaper to tell the European Champions that he wanted to leave so he can play regularly last month, and the club was hoping that when he talks with their new manager he would change his mind.

However, Kovacic is said to have held discussions about his role with Julen Lopetegui last week and insisted to the manager that he wants out. The Croatian is behind the likes of Casimero, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the pecking order and played only 21 times last season.

He has won the Champions League in all his three seasons at the Bernabeu, but feels now is the right time to get regular playing time under his belt. This would delight Mourinho who has been searching for a new midfielder to add more steel to his midfield.
