Mourinho has been in search of a centre-back this summer and has turned his sights to the 25-year-old star. United have been frustrated with Tottenham over key target Toby Alderweireld as the north London club are reportedly demanding £70 million for the 29-year-old. Maguire is 4 years younger, would cost less and fits ideally with Jose Mourinho’s style of play.
Maguire is powerful in the air and can move the ball out from the back, qualities which have been lacking in the technically deficient pairing of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. However, it is believed Leicester will be keen on retaining the defender signed from Hull City last summer.
Maguire is a good player, but doubts still remain if he can perform at a club like United due to his occasional lapse in concentration. United fans would be excited if the club can sign the player to partner Eric Bailly in the centre back position.
Maguire has become a key figure in Leicester featuring in all 38 matches for the Foxes last season. A fee of £50 million would be a substantial profit for the player who cost Leicester £17 million last summer.
