TRANSFER TWIST Napoli reject €100m bid for Kalidou Koulibaly from unnamed club amid strong Manchester United interest

It is rumoured that the Red Devils could have been the ones who made the offer

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that he rejected a bid worth €100m for centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

However, while speaking to official radio station Kiss Kiss Napoli, he refrained from confirming which club submitted the offer.

At the beginning of the summer, it was reported the Italians were expecting bids from Chelsea and Manchester United for the 26-year-old, following another sensational season for him in Serie A.
However, it has been claimed by De Laurentiis that, as part of the deal which saw Jorginho and Maurizio Sarri head to London, the clubs agreed a ‘pact of non-aggression.’

This was to mean that the Blues would not actively pursue other targets at the club or try to raid Naples for the likes of Elseid Hysaj and Koulibaly.

Therefore, Italian outlets such as Gazzetta dello Sport speculate that it is Jose Mourinho’s United, who have submitted the monster bid for the Senegalese centre-back.

It has recently emerged that United’s pursuit of Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is not progressing as smoothly as hoped. Another factor which hints they could now be looking elsewhere.

A bid of this size (if successful) would make Kalidou Koulibaly the most expensive defender in football history, eclipsing the £75 million Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.
